When I published this post in 18th of January, I didn’t know yet that Local Culture Hostel has closed permanently due to bankruptcy…
It is sad when such a nice place must be closed. Hopefully owners of the Local Culture Hostel will create something even better in the future, as well as the historic building will soon find new amazing inhabitants contributing to the cultural life of Jyväskylä.
Below is the original text from my old Instagram post. Photos of the post are taken in November 2019.

Would you like to have a cup of coffee in a café that used to be a library before? Or maybe spend a night in former museum building? What about attending an event in an old granary?
Well, you can do all those things in the oldest stone building of Jyväskylä! It is Seminaarinmäki granary – The Local Culture Hostel & Café nowadays
Brief history of functions: – Built in 1851 as a granary to cope with uncertain harvests.
– In 1916 building was turned into the public and academic library, but in 1948 replaced by the city library.
– In 1982 the Craft Museum of Finland moved in.
– In 2001 former granary building became an office of headmaster of the University of Jyväskylä.
– Since 2018 inhabited by The Local Culture Hostel & Café where events and exhibitions are happening regularly.
